So this is the place where I should tell you that I was a choir boy when
took up drumming-lessons, at the ripe age of ten.
I should tell you that after a short skit as singer and drummer in
my highschool-band, I became lead singer in a rockband called Apple
and that our first demo tape was "demo of the month" in Aardschok
Magazine, which also credited us as the support act for the Golden
Earring.
I should tell you that with my current cover band, The Peachkings,
in which I'm the lead singer and play acoustic rhythm guitar, we
made it to part one of a boy's dream, namely, flying abroad to be
playing (Portugal) and that we're performing 3-6 times a month at
parties and festivals.
I could throw stories of how exciting it is
to be the support act for Grammy award winner Flaco Jimenez, Venice
and a couple of well known dutch bands like: Bløf, De Kast, Volumia,
Di-rect etc, and how much fun and valuable playing coversongs is (I
sometimes perform with a seventies tribute band, 7T-Rox).
But all that information is pretty boring, at least to me (I would
be exhausted by now: I'm blessed/cursed with the attention span of a
rabbit when there's only information without communication).
However, there are a few things I want to share with you: one of which is
that writing my own songs is something that I really like doing and that
it's a real and ongoing source of joy in my life (I can get really excited
when I'm sitting on the couch at home writing new songs!).
Another thing is that, although I had been stepping on stages for more than
10 years, for one reason or another there was always something holding me
back when it came to performing my songs on my own.
But ever since I was invited to participate in the Amsterdam singer
/songwriter competition "Mooie Noten" in March 2005, I know that
performing on my own is great and I'm ready and willing to play my
songs everywhere for everyone!
So when I
played the Paradiso club in may 2005 during the semi-finals of "Mooie
Noten", it felt like a milestone in my life up until now: Almost all of my
heroes have performed under that same roof!
Since then I've been playing on a regular basis. I was the support act for
dutch band 16 Down and in August 2006 I was the opening act for
californian band ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) in the Melkweg
club, Amsterdam. See ya!
Influences and heroes: Prince, Van Halen, Stevie Wonder, Beatles, Led
Zeppelin, James Taylor, Donny Hathaway, Lenny Kravitz, Jeff Buckley, Dave
Matthews, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Gavin DeGraw, Richie
Kotzen, Amos Lee etc.
....good, a real song-smith, the music is not repetitive and
therefore keeps the listener interested....
(Jury-report, Grote Prijs van Nederland, 2004)
....good voice....good stage presence....
(Jury's verdict, Mooie Noten, 2005)
